Afnan's Ethical Dilemma: Balancing AI Use and Student Integrity
Afnan is a high school English teacher who loves using technology in her classroom. Recently, she introduced her students to AI writing tools to help them improve their writing skills.
At first, Afnan thought it was a great idea. The students could get suggestions and learn to write better essays. However, she soon noticed some problems.
Some students started to depend too much on the AI and didn’t write their essays themselves. They copied ideas directly from the AI without thinking about their own opinions.
Afnan worries that this is not fair to the students who put in the effort to write on their own. She feels it is important for students to develop their writing skills without relying too much on technology.
Now, Afnan is unsure how to encourage creativity while still using AI tools. She needs to find a balance between using technology and teaching students to think for themselves.
Questions to think about:
1. How can teachers encourage students to use AI tools responsibly?
2. What can teachers do to prevent plagiarism when using AI?
3. Should there be limits on how much students can use AI for their writing?
