Dilemma #2

Please read the AI dilemma below, discuss the questions and then share with others on our Padelt.

Grading with AI: Help or Hindrance?

Miss Susan teaches English to 120 students and spends hours grading essays each week. She wonders if she should start using AI to help with grading and giving feedback to her students.

Using AI could save time by quickly checking papers and offering instant feedback. This would give Miss Susan more time to help students individually. AI could provide consistent grading and easily catch grammar mistakes.

However, there are worries. AI might miss the emotional parts of student writing, not understand creative ideas, or fail to see personal growth.

Miss Susan must decide whether using AI for grading would make her a more efficient teacher or distance her from her students' learning journey.

Questions to think about:

1. How can teachers balance using new technology while maintaining meaningful connections with students?

2. Should students know when AI is being used to grade their work?

3. What kinds of feedback should come from teachers and what kinds from AI?
